Observations on Anime

Wed Apr 23, 2008, 10:22 PM
When you've watched a lot of anime, like I have, (God, I can't remember all the anime I've watched.) you start to notice some things that are common, such as character design and types. Also, you start see what a character would be called if they actually existed in real life.
Examples: Ichigo Kurosaki: Oh my god, is he so very tall. Six feet at least, and it seems he gains a foot after transforming into a Soul Reaper. No, seriously. Although his height does seem to fluctuate uncomfortably at times.
Isshin Kurosaki: Maybe the reason he left was because he got banned from Soul Society. (Or did they already state that? AAARGH, damn my laziness.) Why? You ask. maybe Soul Reapers, especially CAPTAIN-level, aren't supposed to fall in love and have children with humans. It could be like a Jedi/Saiyajin thing, as in, the children of Soul Reapers are very powerful, very early on. It would certainly explain Ichigo's ghostsight, and his apparent incredible rises in power.
Rukia Kuchiki: Is Emo. No question about it. So very Emo. All she's missing is the cut wrists and ultra-whiny crap poetry. Going with the statements about Isshin above, it could be Rukia got in trouble with SS not for giving Ichigo power, (which seems it would have happened eventually, just much later in his life.) But, in their eyes, falling in love with Ichigo. They don't want a repeat of Isshin, after all.
Now, if you know about Japanese stereotypes of Americans, you'll see other characters in whole new lights. They include: All Americans carry multiple guns on them at all times or are just gun nuts. This is an more obscure stereotype that I've rarely seen, save for the characters in Black Lagoon, for example. Another, far more common stereotype, is that Americans are blond with blue eyes. They are also very brash, loud, usually stupid/uneducated, and boozers.
Naruto Uzumaki: Is in actuality, American. He would look like a white guy with blond hair and blue eyes in real life. He's also not actually stupid, merely uneducated. He did skip a lot of classes, and those he didn't, he goofed off in.
Tsunade: Also American. Same hair and eye color as Naruto, AND she's a boozer. She is DEFINITELY not stupid, however.
The Yondaime: Seeing as how he's Naruto's daddy, and supposedly is where Naruto inherited his behavior, he also fits.
Now onto some character types:
Yandere: We actually have a word for this character type: Lorena Bobbit AKA that psycho-bitch who cut off her adultering husband's dick.
Tsundere: One Word: Bitch. Both tsundere and yandere are character typers that are supposed to exist in real life, so yeah. If a normal person, (you) were to actually talk to a character of this type, and she was acting like the tsun-tsun part (hostile) I guarantee that the first words out of your mouth after she was out of earshot would be: "Man, what a bitch." This is not to say all women who are bitches are tsundere, just a certain type.
Now for some random.
Sakura Haruno: Tsundere. Most definetely. She WAS a fangirl, now she's also a yaoi fangirl.
Have you noticed that Renji Abarai HAS NEVER won a fight against any major opponent? I mean, come on, what is he, that universe's butt monkey?
I've always wanted to watch a harem anime where the protagonist isn't some Unlucky Everydude with Wierd Pheromones. I also wish that you can't really tell which girl he'll end up with right from the beginning, it's annoying. Show some creative backbone and conceal it from us. Also the roundabout circular endings so common in harem anime is very maddening. You know, where it essentially ends the same as it began, just with every character introduced and no definite decision made.
I also don't like it when the main characters friends do something horrible, or just really bad to him, AND HE DOESN'T GET MAD AT THEM. Like say, ignoring him/her and shouting horrible untrue accusations at him/her. The least he/she could do when it all gets resolved is do the same to them, ignore them, so on and so forth. Not just accept them again. No one save for Jesus is THAT forgiving. It could be they crave attention too much to do it for too long, but come on.
In Bleach, people keep saying things like, "Orihime isn't suited for fighting" or "her powers aren't really for fighting". It may be true that she's a better healer than fighter, but if you take her powers to their logical conclusion, she can REJECT YOUR VERY EXISTENCE if she so wished. They should all be grateful that she's so kind she would never do that. (Or would she? Hmm.)

More to come! (Hopefully)
